Neil Young is about ready to bring Crazy Horse out of the barn. The veteran rocker posted a note on his Neil Young Archives page confirming that the fitfully active group would return to the stage May 1 and 2 at Warnors Theatre in Fresno, California.
“First time in a long time, live on stage. No rehearsal,” Neil tersely stated in the post, describing what will take place onstage. And considering the Horse’s reputation as a notoriously mercurial onstage creature, this news should have fans worked up in an anticipatory frenzy.
The news follows Neil claiming in a Rolling Stone interview that Neil Young and Crazy Horse has “an incredible album in the can that’s a recent album. Alchemy.” Whether new material from this album will actually be debuted is anyone’s guess, but one auxiliary Horseman has been confirmed for the Fresno shows: longtime guest guitarist Nils Lofgren.
“Nothing like playing with old friends,” Lofgren mused on Twitter. “A friend just reminded me, at this age you can’t coast.”
