“Glimmer” can be found on Storytone, Young’s latest album, which hit stores this week. The album comes in two parts: the first features ten songs performed solo, while the second contains those same songs redone with an orchestra (7/10) or a big brass band (3/10).
Album Review: Neil Young’s Vulnerable ‘Storytone’ Sings About Love — and Saving the Environment
Neil Young has always relished first takes in the studio, and many of the early ’70s albums that established him as an artistic force rely on the sparks and spontaneity of that initial approach. Usually he works with a tight-knit band like his longtime comrades in Crazy Horse.

But in “Glimmer,” he steps to the microphone accompanied by a massive orchestra and a choir. Sporting shades and a backwards hat, Young sings about a long-time partner, occasionally leaping up to hit some high notes. His instantly recognizable voice has hardly changed in 40 years.
A vinyl version of the album will come out on Dec. 16.
